We’re happy to announce a new release of the Plex Media Server; this is a followup to the last beta release, which was the first to support DLNA and Silverlight Smooth Streaming, and fixes a number of issues in those areas, along with some other things.

Overall the feedback for those new features has been really awesome. I’ll let our community do the talking:

Thanks so much for all your feedback, we really appreciate all the support!

Since we’re detailing the changes behind not one, but TWO releases, I figured you deserved something more than a photo of Barkley, so we made you a video. No, he’s not fishing, he’s just confused by objects on the bottom of the lagoon looking closer than they actually are.

[NOTE: From the name-calling and angry comments, it's clear we offended some BlackBerry users, and I wanted to clarify a few things: 1) we were poking fun at the company (which seems to have lost its way), not the users. 2) We've discussed BlackBerry as a Plex platform, and looked into getting our Android app into the App World, but there were issues (the PlayBook version of Android was too old to support the video features we need, and the custom video solution we use for Android 2.x doesn't work on the PlayBook). 3) I'm personally sorry I offended anyone. This was an April Fools' post, and not intended to be taken seriously! Please check your pitchforks and Torches at the door.]

It’s been a big week for us here at Plex. We released a killer update of the Plex for Roku client, which is now officially in the Roku Channel Store. We released a massive update of the Plex Media Server, with DLNA and Windows Phone support. And we released a beautiful new client for the Windows Phone. Not bad, right?

We wanted to bring you equally big news on the business front. This may come as a surprise to many of you, but we’ve been talking to a number of companies over the past year, and have rejected quite a few otherwise generous acquisition offers, simply because we didn’t feel like they were good fits. (At one point we were entertaining an offer from a certain Cupertino company, but in all honesty I was left entirely unimpressed with the cafeteria food.)

A few months ago, however, we found a company which shared our passion, our ethos, our philosophy. The company was looking to revitalize their brand, and was lacking a cohesive media story for their devices. One thing led to another, and now that the ink is dry on the paperwork, I’m incredibly proud to be able to share the news with you: We have been acquired by RIM.

Think about it for a moment: they have a great line of phones, a killer tablet, a magnificent sense of design (have you let your thumbs run over a BlackBerry keyboard lately?), and an incredible vision for the future. And have you heard the new CEO speak? When he says “What I’m really good at is inspiring teams” he means it! I’m inspired!

So what does this new direction imply for our current users? Most of you probably already own a BlackBerry device (who doesn’t?) so you shouldn’t notice much a difference at all. The iOS, Android, and Window Phone clients will get updates which redirect you on launch to the RIM homepage, and our new BlackBerry/PlayBook client (we’re calling it “PlexBerry” which I think you’ll agree has a nice ring) will be available for download in the next 24 hours. Since RIM’s focus for the week is on corporate customers, we’re including a new “boss key” feature in Plex which will quickly overlay an Excel spreadsheet over any video you’re watching.

We want to thank you all so much for your support over the past years! I will of course continue working on Plex for RIM devices, reporting directly to Thorsten (now that he’s cleaned house - about time!).

[Before taking this too seriously, check the date on the article.]

So I write this as a longtime iPhone user, who went to the Apple Store in Pasadena the day after it was released, and bought the original iPhone as a wedding present for my fiancé. I then spent the next three years borrowing it, since I was so glued to my desk, I didn’t see a need for owning a cell phone myself.

(Once the iPhone 4 came out, I couldn’t resist any longer, bought one immediately, and upgraded to the 4S when it came out, mostly for the improved camera. Love it.)

Android phones never managed to capture my interest. They just looked and felt like bad photocopies of the iPhone, and didn’t offer anything new I was interested in, like the ability to install a custom theme that looked even uglier than the default, or download torrents on my phone, or play a Matrix animation in the background, or remove my battery, or spend time killing random processes, or over-clock my CPU, or any other beardy sort of thing. (Seriously, if I could remove my battery, I would misplace it in less than five minutes.)

When Windows Phone 7 was released, I was intrigued by the design and typography, but I didn’t get to play with it until my brother bought one and raved about it. My initial impression (this was pre-Mango) was lukewarm, and I was obsessed with the iPhone at that point anyway, so I just went all fanboy on his ass and mostly ignored it.

Fast-forward to this January, I ordered a second hand Samsung device to help with development, and promptly fell in love with it. Why? Let me count the ways: First of all, it was new and different. As much as Android felt like (poorly) recycled ideas and bad new ones, Windows Phone felt original, well designed, and fun to use. The performance was great, really smooth in a way iOS is and Android isn’t even in ICS. The “pivot” and “panorama” UI concepts were fresh and a great way of making good use of a small screen in portrait mode. The typography was clean and brazen. The integration of Facebook and Twitter made them feel like first class citizens, not an afterthought. The live tiles on the home screen were a great way to make the phone feel alive.

Just as important, though, was how I felt going back to my iPhone after a week of using the Windows Phone almost exclusively: obviously the iPhone has a far better camera and much better photo software, and for that reason alone I wouldn’t abandon it. But the iPhone felt staid, for lack of a better word. I wanted to be able to pin a few email folders to my home screen and watch them update live. I wanted to see all my social updates in a more integrated way. I missed being able to go to a contact (which I could also pin to my home screen), and easily see the conversations (Facebook, or SMS) I was having with them, and recent photos they’d uploaded.

My conclusion is a bit bifurcated: If you’re looking for a mobile device that’s not iOS, you should really check out Windows Phone, especially on the sexy new Nokia devices. And Apple, please integrate social services more closely, and do something cool with the home and lock screens, which are getting boring after 5 years.

Anyway, that was a really long tangent, which took almost as long to write as Plex for Windows Phone, which brings me to my next point. Platforms face two ways, towards the users, and towards the developers. The iOS development environment is quite good, with the weakest link being Objective-C, which has a steep learning curve and feels like it stepped out of the 80s with a cocaine hangover.

Android, oh, Android, I don’t mean to pick on you once again, but your edit-build-deploy cycle is long enough to make a grown man cry, and then stab himself in the eyeballs, and then cry some more. Java is fine, but the surrounding environment and piss-poor emulator makes it much harder to develop for than it should be.

So how is the Windows Phone development environment? It’s scary good. C# is a great language, .NET is a solid framework, XAML is a really nice way to design user interfaces, and the edit-build-deploy cycle is fast. It still has a bit of growing up to do, but the proof, as they say, is in the pudding: we were able to write the app from start to finish in two months, between two engineers working part time, which is almost an order of magnitude faster than it took for the iOS and Android app. This sounds impossible, but trust me, it’s incredibly productive. (And as the last one out of the gate, it *needs* to be productive if the platform is to gain the apps it needs.)

My last thought on Windows Phone is that it’s got all the ingredients it needs to be successful: It’s a fun, useful, well-designed platform, with sexy (Nokia) hardware, and it’s as good for developers as it is for users. It deserves much more marketshare than it has, and Microsoft seems to be making most of the right moves (about time). We’ll see how it all works out.

All that to say: Hey, Plex for Windows Phone 7 is now available in the App Store! (Well, it should be shortly, it says it’s live but apparently it takes a little while to actually show up.) Make sure you’re running the new 0.9.6 beta of the Plex Media Server, which includes Silverlight Smooth Streaming support.

We hope you love it.

(OK, so I just *know* some smart alec is going to make a comment about “all twelve Windows Phone 7 users” really appreciating this release, and I should warn you: we know who you are, and any such commenter will find that Plex will start overlaying black bars over any videos with nudity. In the right places. No, really. It’s patent pending and we call it the deboobifier.)

So what exactly is DLNA, and why are we so excited to be releasing a new version of the Plex Media Server which supports it? DLNA stands for Digital Living Network Alliance, which says more about the fact that it’s a fancy standard than what it actually is, and really, everything you ever needed to know about standards is expressed in the following XKCD comic:

All joking aside, DLNA encompasses some mechanisms around sharing media between devices. The best thing about DLNA is that there are literally hundreds of millions of devices which can play media from DLNA servers. The *worst* thing about DLNA is that almost every DLNA player has its own unique interpretation of the specification, and support for a very different set of codecs and formats. The other really bad thing about DLNA is that it has extremely poor support for metadata, unlike Plex, which supports gobs of data (actors! genres! directors! country! tags! collections! and more!) for every single piece of media.

As most of you are aware, one of the components of the Plex Media Server is a really really awesome transcoder (no, really, it’s amazing), which we put to good use serving up content to lots of different devices already, and which we’ve enhanced substantially in this new release, by adding DLNA-friendly features, as well as support for Silverlight Smooth Streaming (which of course is used by the new Windows Phone 7 client).

So in a most excellent ménage à trois, we’ve united our sexy transcoder with Plex’s rich metadata system and Plutinosoft’s fabulous DLNA SDK. The result (besides a lingering scent of cologne and flowers) is the world’s best DLNA server. No, really. I’m not prone to hyperbole. This DLNA server can do things that no other DLNA server on the planet can do. And the coolest part is that with this new release, all the content served up by your Plex Media Server is now accessible by an insane amount of new devices, including ones that may already be in your homes (your LG washing machine doesn’t have DLNA? Send it back!).

Let’s look at a few of my favorite features of the Plex DLNA server:

myPlex queue support: you can use the bookmarklet to queue web video, and play them from your DLNA device. Talk about breathing new life into your PS3, I love watching queued videos on that device.

myPlex shared content support: you can play shared media from your friends. (They need to be running this new version of the media server.) This is, like, mind-boggling. DLNA isn’t supposed to work across the Internet, but with our new server, I get all Obama-like and yell “Yes You Can!”.

Channels: We support video, music, and photo channels on DLNA clients which support it.

Direct Play and Direct Streaming: whenever we can, we just serve up the file, since lots of DLNA clients support many different formats/codecs. Additionally, we can remux files, which allows playing HD MKV files on a PS3 at full video quality, for example.

Metadata: Obviously DLNA has limitations, but we make the best of the metadata we have available and format it in a way that looks great on a DLNA client.

So now a few caveats. First and foremost, this is an initial release of the server, labeled beta, and there will be bugs. The good news is that, as always, the server is backwards/forwards compatible, so you can move back and forth as you wish between beta and stable.

Secondly, there are like seven bazillion DLNA devices. At least. We’ve focused on support for two of them primarily (the PS3, and the Xbox360) and one other (the WD TV Live). The good news is that we have a very simple yet powerful XML-based configuration (see here for the current one) system which can be used to describe new DLNA clients’ capabilities. We can push out new profiles to everyone automatically, and you can extend it with your own profiles. (For those who care, just make your own dlnaclientprofiles.xml file in the Plex Media Server application support folder. And please, please, share your new profiles with us so that everyone can benefit!)

Last of all, subtitles are not working with DLNA in this release. We will absolutely get them working, and better than you might think possible, just not in this first release. Sorry.

The new links to this BETA release of the Plex Media Server are available in the usual place (look for the beta release with DLNA support). Linux builds will be up shortly, we’re just doing a final round of testing. Enjoy!

I’ll leave you with this photo of Barkley, who has become a bipedal aquatic canine. Seriously, he walks around the lagoon on his two hind paws, looking for fish or something else to pounce on.

You’re probably already familiar with the Roku Media Streamers, but if not, you’ll want to check them out! They have a line of lovely little devices, starting at just fifty bucks, capable of 720p on the low end, and 1080p and Angry Birds on the high end. They also have a great SDK which allows third parties to write Roku Channels, and we’re extremely happy to let you know that as of today, the Plex Roku Channel is now officially available in the Roku Channel Store.

We’ve had a private channel available for a few months, but we’ve really been working hard to make it even more awesome. In a great example of why I love the our community, a Plex team led by Schuyler collaborated with Alan, Matt, L0stS0ul and others from the forums to create this new version.

If you haven’t seen it for a while, this is what’s new:

Full myPlex support: Sign into your myPlex account, and you get instant access to your media queue, shared content, and your own servers that you’ve published through myPlex. So easy! So awesome!

Audio and Photo support: We now support browsing and playing the full range of media that the Plex Media Server supports, both from your library and channels.

Revamped UI: as you can see below, we’re now using grids on a lot of screens now, and there’s a nice Plex-like theme throughout.

Direct Play: For media formats that are supported by the Roku, we’ll try to play it without transcoding.

Tons of other stuff, including many bug-fixes.

Have a look through the screenshots below, and consider getting a Roku device, either for your primary Plex client, or for that guest room (lucky guests!), kid’s room (lucky kids!) or doghouse (Barkley has the Roku2 XS).

My gosh, it’s been a while.

You’d think I didn’t love writing these posts, or we’ve all been on vacation for a very long time. As usual, however, we’ve been here the whole time, working tirelessly on Plex, and growing our small but ninja-level team of developers. We’re super happy to announce that Tobias (of Plex for ATV2 fame) is joining us full-time; turns out Sweden is not only full of Plex-lovers, it’s also full of incredible engineering talent.

In other news, we’re finalizing the release of our Windows Phone 7 client, about which I’ll blog more shortly (until then, you can watch a sneak peek video). Also coming up is a release of the Plex Media Server which supports DLNA, which means you can access all your content from your Xbox360 or PS3 (yes, including your myPlex Queue and shared content, this is not your parents’ DLNA!). Our friends at GigOM have a sneak peek.

Also, I promise, we will soon switch our attention to the Plex desktop client (Laika) to fix bugs and add some cool new things. I realize some of you are frustrated with the optical audio bug and A/V sync issue, and we’ll get them fixed. (This is the client that’s on my TV every time I use Plex, so it’s near and dear to my heart!)

Lastly, between blog posts, if you’re looking for some love, follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, or stop by the Plex Chat to say hello! I’m in the chat room most days myself, always happy to meet new and long-time users.

For today, we have a new release of the media server for you, which fixes a number of issues. The release can be downloaded from the usual spot, and we’ll enable autoupdate in a day or two for Mac and Windows. (On Linux, ReadyNAS, QNAP/Cisco and unRAID packages are up, others will follow shortly.)

NEW: Add a universal font for rendering subtitles with on Windows and Linux. This fixes streaming from Linux not working when subtitles were enabled.

NEW: Enhanced selection of audio tracks: if streams are all in the same language (or are all missing a language), apply selection logic for DTS/AC3.

FIX: Some media (e.g. MPEG1/2/TS) was not properly generating a thumbnail.

FIX: We check to see if public address changes, and if so, notify myPlex.

FIX: If the port is manually mapped, the media server never updates myPlex.

FIX: Computing “streamability” for MP4 files was totally broken, leading to iOS not Direct Playing them. (You’ll need to rescan the library section or else kick off media analysis via the command line to fix existing files.)

FIX: In some cases, the wrong subtitle (internal) was rendered, even when an external subtitle was selected.

FIX: On Deck wasn’t correct for shows with multiple episodes on a single day (e.g. two-part finales like that awesome Lost finale that Anna and I are still arguing about).

FIX: Filenames are now stored as UTF-8 on the Mac.

FIX: A hang on OS X/Linux when spawning a section refresh

FIX: Unmatched media wasn’t getting subtitles and cover art files.

FIX: Stop ignoring USB drives on Linux; it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it just makes neckbeards angry.

FIX: A bug where site config “pause” commands would never continue if a frame load came in during the pause (thanks, Ian!)

FIX: A crash when there is no computer name set on OS X.

FIX: Various WebKit crashes on Windows.

FIX: Increase the iTunes ‘path’ column in the database, required for better I18N support (it was super short).

FIX: Tweak to HTTP Live Streaming to make it adhere closer to the spec (and work on a TouchPad).

FIX: Better (and much simpler) check for private network connections (details here).

FIX: When episodes don’t have indexes (episode numbers), watched/unwatched settings applied to the entire season.

FIX: When splitting media, you could end up with a “warning” flag that wouldn’t go away.

FIX: Improved WebKit audio sync.

FIX: A crash while updating the library.

We’ll be back soon with more news and releases, but for now I’ll leave you with a photo of the official Plex mascot, Mr. Barkley.

We’ve also been hard at work this month on the new release of Plex for iOS. The most exciting change in this new version is support for myPlex-only configuration. Previous versions required a media server to be present, but no more! You can watch videos out of your queue and play shared content by simply signing into your myPlex account. Of course, Flash and Silverlight video still requires a media server to transcode, but thanks in no small part to Apple’s refusal to put Flash on iOS devices, more and more content is available in HTML5 video.

NEW: Serverless operation!

NEW: Added a preference for enabling/disabling Direct Play.

NEW: Added even higher quality transcode options for iPhone 4S/iPad 2. More Direct Streaming, more winning.

NEW: Display all the shared servers in settings area.

NEW: Added new translations for Catalan, Czech, Danish, Spanish, Finnish, Hebrew, Hindi, and Hungarian. Thanks so much to everyone who has been helping out, and if you’d like to contribute a translation, please visit this site in Firefox.

FIX: Improvements in Direct Play, more media should play without transcoding. If you’ve got media which is transcoding and shouldn’t be, please send us logs and samples, we want to hear about it.

FIX: The letter index no longer shows black letters on a black background, which turns out to be quite hard to read.

FIX: Crash when tapping to play a video.

FIX: Rotation to landscape in remote view.

FIX: Gesture area background color was odd.

FIX: AirPlay Mirroring should work now.

FIX: A crash in the details view on the iPhone.

FIX: Better detection of non GSM iPhone 4 devices, allowing higher video quality settings to show up.

FIX: The video player would sometimes continue playing in the background (audio only).

FIX: When stopping video playback right away, sometimes it would display an error.

FIX: Occasional black screen after playback, especially after multi-part media.

FIX: In conjunction with the newest media server, fixes some channel content not playing.

FIX: Occasionally the app would display the second level filters as a list.

FIX: A few other miscellaneous crashes.

The update has just been approved by Apple, so it should be available shortly!

There are lots of goodies in this release, but never before have I felt that one small image had the potential to bring such great joy to our users as this one:

That’s right, our good friend Ryan took a break from saving people’s lives to add refresh rate switching. On TVs that support it, this means perfect 24p playback with nary a shudder, judder, or stutter. I have an old Sony TV set and it works great, taking under a second to switch rates. (You may need to have to use something like SwitchResX to add the refresh rate to your TV.)

Similarly pleasing, we’ve fixed the issue where video playback was taking much more CPU than the last release. VC-1, H.264, and all other codecs will now be at the same or lower CPU usage in this version of Laika.

We’ve also addressed an issue many have reported with the media server not being found, or being found only to be lost again. We’re still tracking down the root cause, but for now, if you’re having trouble, simply enter the address of your server in the network preferences.

Here is a full list of changes:

NEW: [Mac] Support for automatic refresh rate switching. And there was much rejoicing.

NEW: Add a way to specify a manual address for a media server, useful for working around network issues.

NEW: When running without a server, search now returns cloud results.

NEW: Add a global audio delay setting.

FIX: CPU usage for software decoding greatly reduced for all codecs, fixing VC-1 “stutter” issue and playback on older machines.

FIX: Allow selecting interface language in preferences.

FIX: Enable down-mix volume boost preference.

FIX: Enable speaker configuration preference.

FIX: A hang in the home screen.

FIX: Losing a server even though it was running on the same machine.

FIX: Not enough buffering (and therefore playback issues) with remote transcoded media.

FIX: Toggling full screen works on multi-display setups.

FIX: Allow ESC to get out of a playlist.

FIX: Add missing strings for shutdown timer.

FIX: Change the audio settings dialog to show delay in milliseconds, it seemed more human-friendly.

FIX: Crash clicking the “save as default” button in video settings.

FIX: Make sure we stop remote transcodes when stopping playback.

FIX: Update ffmpeg, fixes some artifacts with VC-1 and several other issues.

FIX: Stop printing myPlex tokens to the logs.

FIX: “Old-school” sources were disappearing after a restart.

FIX: Posters/art weren’t changing when changed on the media server.

FIX: Don’t play theme music if music is already playing or if video is playing in small window.

FIX: Background music volume is always VERY LOUD (preference works now).

FIX: [Mac] A crash when playing Flash/Silverlight videos followed by non-WebKit video.

FIX: [Mac] Flash/Silverlight video occasionally displayed black & white garbage on the screen.

FIX: Info button on iOS toggles OSD, and back button works as well.

FIX: Multiple crashes when skipping around in videos.

FIX: [Win] Crash on startup.

FIX: [Win] A randomly occurring hang.

This release brought to you by the ever-vigilant, hyper-loyal, best friend of man and woman, Mr Barkley.

It’s been just a short month since our last major release, and we’re back with a bunch of bug-fixes and enhancements that taste great, yet contain no tryptophan, no side of mushy mashed potatoes, nor any boring conversation from Aunt Millie. We hope all our US users had a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Since it has moved to shipping separately, the Plex Media Server is now a much better standalone application, with support for autoupdate and starting at login.

NEW: Sparkle automatic update support. Because every application eventually gains the ability to send email and update itself.

NEW: Easy way to make Plex Media Server start on login via menu item. Additionally, it deletes the old launch agent so the old media server doesn’t start.

We’ve also fixed a number of bugs, as well as some issues with the transcoder. For some of these, you’ll need the next version of the iOS application (v2.1) which is making its way to the App Store.

FIX: A few bugs around signing up for and recovering passwords for myPlex inside the application.

FIX: The myPlex-linked media manager page didn’t allow adding sections from outside the local network.

FIX: In some cases episodes were being incorrectly stacked (which made it seem like they were being ignored). Perform a deep scan (option/alt + click on refresh) to fix incorrectly merged episodes.

FIX: Improved metadata loading for date-based series.

FIX: On Deck was not working in some cases, or provided incomplete data, especially for people who watch way too much TV.

FIX: Don’t allow shared users to affect view offset or status until they get their own account.

FIX: Some Aperture photos wouldn’t display properly on iOS.

FIX: Make all shared library content look unwatched.

FIX: Use a new way of computing unique media server identifiers given that many Hackintoshes have the same serial numbers. If you have a hackintosh (you naughty person), you may notice duplicate servers in the iOS app or myPlex; simply delete the old one.

FIX: [Win] Some media took too long to start in the transcoder, leading playback to fail. Faster startup in general.

FIX: Better support for transcoder session starting, along with v2.1 iOS update fixes some channel content failing to play.

FIX: When manually specifying myPlex port, don’t send new information to myPlex every 10 minutes.

FIX: A few transcoder related crashes.

FIX: A hang and a few crashes playing Flash/Silverlight video.

FIX: Even more improvements to Flash/Silverlight A/V sync.

FIX: [Win] Failure to start the media server due to iTunes file permissions.

FIX: [Win] A few setup/installation issues.

FIX: [Win] Don’t fall asleep while transcoding.

FIX: [Win] Issues relating to a system install of Python.

FIX: [Win] Crash on exit, another crash on start-up.

FIX: [Linux] Crashes related to automatic scanning.

Also in the mix are a few enhancements to the media server’s API. Thanks to the logging API, you’ll notice that the transcoder now sends lots of information over to the media server’s log, which means that it’ll be much easier for us to understand why a particular file isn’t producing the optimal results.

NEW: Allow specifying encoding for subtitle stream (used in Roku client).

NEW: Export the updatedAt attribute in the root XML to facilitate manual discovery.

NEW: Add a new /log endpoint, useful for clients to remotely log to the media server’s log file.

I’ll detail the changes to the clients in the next post. Downloads are available off the main page, and Linux releases will be up very short. We realize that many of you have been waiting, especially for a new Synology builds, and we’re super pleased to let you know that we’re just wrapping up completely automated builds for all our Linux and NAS releases. So I promise, this is the last release you’ll have to wait, and you won’t have to wait long, in any event!

In order to symbolize your patience in awaiting this release, I asked Barkley to sit there with a tasty organic oat cookie on his paws for 4 seconds. Note the drool on his right arm.

Hello again, myPlexians! (myPlexers? myPlexites? Hmm…) Andre here again, back from working hard in the myPlex fields with a juicy harvest. As part of our ongoing efforts to make adding videos to your queue as easy as possible, we have set up a newer, friendlier way. Every myPlex queue now has an email address. To find out what your queue’s email address is, just visit the queue help page. The email address on that page is unique, and adds videos only to your queue. Keep it to yourself, since anyone can add videos to your queue if they know that address.

How is this email address useful to me, you ask? Well, it’s actually pretty cool. On certain types of mobile devices that are pretty popular nowadays, like iPhones, and iPads, and those Android thingies, it’s hard to use bookmarklets. Setting them up is a pain, finding them to use them is a pain, and it’s pretty much just a pain all around. What those convenient and tiny computers all share, though, is a button that lets you email a link to the page or video. That button is now the beautiful integration point for your myPlex Queue! Just email the link to your queue’s email address, and you’ll be able to watch the video later from the comfort of your very own Plex.

To make things even easier, you can add your queue’s email address to your address book, with a name like “myPlex Queue”. Once you’ve done that, you don’t have to remember (or copy and paste) your queue’s email address whenever you want to queue an item over email. Now that you can email items to your queue, it’s easier than it’s ever been to queue up videos to watch later on your Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad, and any other device that supports myPlex.

Since those devices all put the name of the video in the subject line and a link to the webpage in the body, myPlex tries to take the title from the subject and the link from the body of the email. We didn’t want to limit you, though, so we’ll also look for URLs anywhere in the email subject or body. In fact, you can even queue a few URLs at once by sending all of them in a single email. We’ll add each one to your queue.

We hope you enjoy the new feature, and we’ll keep you posted as we continue working hard to add more. As always, we love to hear how your feedback as you use myPlex to watch your media when and where you want it.
