- How do I add internet video such as TED, YouTube, CNET etc?
- Internet sources are added using the App Store found in the Applications menu. See the following screencast for more info. vimeo.com/3315184
- One of the plug-ins has stopped working.
- If a plug-in stops working, it’s likely that the structure of the site changed. This doesn’t happen very frequently with most sites, but it’s a definite possibility. When this occurs, an entity we call the “Campfire Robot” springs into action automatically and tracks us down to let us know, and shortly thereafter we can push an update. As such, if a site stops working, the best thing to do is to check the App Store for updates. If you have automatic updates turned on, check your install history to see if an update got installed while you were getting coffee.
- I don’t see the Applications Menu Item.
- If you previously used v5 of Plex we suggest deleting the folder called Plex found in ~/Library/Application Support/. Many things have changed and a fresh install will ensure the best performance with Plex.
- How do I make Movies and TV Shows show up in their respective areas with poster art, plot info, etc?

The Survey Prizes
The survey will run until November 1. Also, users outside the US are absolutely eligible for the the prizes. We have always thought of Plex as an international community. If anything, the survey has shown us that most of our users are outside of the US. We intend to always treat all of our users as first class citizens.
Already filled out the survey? We sure appreciate it, and here’s how much: We’re going to be giving away some seriously cool prizes to three respondents! Those who have already taken the survey get a special thank you, as entries taken before the time of this post will get entered into the drawing twice.
Haven’t taken the survey yet? You still have time.
The prizes are:
- One brand new Mac Mini (2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD)
- One Harmony One Advanced universal remote.
- One Harmony 700 Advanced universal remote.
Not a bad deal for a few minutes of your time, so please, if you haven’t already, head to the survey and give us a piece of your mind!

Sweet Prizes! come on……..mac mini!
ok…gotta ask…when will the prizes be given away?
One comment: In some places the options assume a US-centric view. I don’t use Hulu because I can’t, so the response I give is skewed.
On the reasons for not moving to plex you forgot to add: “Doesn’t understand the point in having a mediacenter to begin with, vs. traditional tv”, or some rewording thereof
I’m surprised tv-tuning wasn’t included as an explicit question (I’d differentiate between just tv-tuning and watching from tv timeshifting, recording and tv guide programming).
Is this going to be a US only affair, or are we filthy foreigners also eligible?
Once again Plex developers have gone out of their way to please their users. Thank you
Mac Mini! Oooooh!
Seriously cool prizes guys!
Did the survey a couple of days ago… best spent couple of minutes in a long time
Keep up the good work!
Wow, those are some *very* nice prizes!!!
This is awesome that Plex developers are listening to their user base. I will admit though that the survey depressed me very much- reading between the lines the questions seem to imply that Plex’s focus is moving away from dedicated HTPC users playing local HD media to lower-end laptop users playing streaming content. Oh well, I guess that is the direction the project must go to grow (because admittedly there are not many high end user out there in comparison).
Plex is an international project, everyone whose primary residence is on planet Earth is eligible to win
The survey closes Nov 1st, and the Mac Mini specs have been added.
Does this mean some major changes is about to happen to Plex? financial wise?
I’m with Poofy, I would like to see more high end HTPC features instead of focusing on laptop web streaming. I really like the prizes and I think that PLEX is the killer app of the decade. Serious props to the devs!
Wow, that’s great news! Thanks!
@popophobia: Yeah, we’re dreading getting our credit card bill
Absolutely amazing… it doesn’t happen too often that a team of developers are as close to the userbase as here. Props people!
Amazing, just amazing. Plex being free and so wonderfully crafted is prize enough. Respect from the UK, planet earth!!
Hope I win, I could use any of those things!
A question about plex. Will the media server update my library from tvdb and such of do I need to have the program running for it to crawl my files?
i’ve never won anything ( mostly because i never participate hehe ) but how cool it’d be to win first contest here
Are we gonna get to see survey stats as well ?
Awesome survey. Asking all the right questions. I’m excited about the possibilities of Plex all over again!
Happy times.
Thanks so much for including entries from outside the US.
So who won? I think everyone who uses Plex wins.
@Willpower4u: We’ve heard from two of the winners, still waiting to hear from the third, then we’ll blog about it
There must be a problem with something because I haven’t received an email / message saying I won, that’s why you haven’t heard from me
I’m the third
?
Dammit I didn’t win!
Awesome competition though
