I have a app-store menu entry but this gets me to the applications (dvd player, front row, …) How can I reset this to the default behaviour?

I downloaded and installed 8.5 but i still cannot get the app store to work. What can i look at? I have manually removed all of the plex related folders but still no luck. Folder permissions look good too.

So, I tried to use plex in the past, and it had too many bugs, and just didn’t work with my media setup. But this week I opened it up again, downloaded updates, and I’m AMAZED! This is an amazing piece of software and I am HUGELY Grateful for all the contributions and work you have done! Thank you!

Ok. My Fault. I’ve just uninstalled Calendair from Osx (Not Snow Leopard), and the Menu button and boot apear to work as espected again.

I have the same problem that LARS has… My Apple Remote is working using the up/down/left/right/ but when press menu i have no response. Nothing. I’ve installed Calendair but i am not on Snow yet. I’ve found that my boot time takes AGES now after installing Calendair…

I will disable calendair and try again, but the remote Menu button don’t acts anymore on my plex 0.8.3

Thanks! That worked perfectly. For some reason two Apple keyboards refused to reset the PRAM. Pulled out an old Microsoft keyboard and PRAM reset was simple. Booting into single user mode stopped at “waiting for device”. But since the system could see the HD, I was able to do an Archive and Install from OS X DVD. Had to spend some time manually restoring my user account and logging in as root:

I had the same problem re-installing from the cd, it dint’t see the HD! I don’t kwnow why, but I resolved reseting the PRAM (with a Windows keyboard booting with Win-Alt-P-R presseded, see Mac manual for Apple keyboard) and disconecting the power cord for a few. After this, the OS intaller could see the HD e reboot again. I didn’t loose anaything..just some setting..

One of the reason only .07% of Leopard users have reported problems may be due to two factors; not realizing the CandleAir driver is the cause of the non-booting Macs, and not having a second working computer.

After spending hours trying to get my iMac working, I started shopping for new hard drives. It was only by chance I went to the Plex site and discovered others had non-booting Leopard Macs after installing CandleAir.

After more Leopard users make the non-booting connection, your reported problem numbers will go up. I’m posting instead of emailing because the Iospirit contact site has crashed.

I’m still unable to restore booting, even after following your excellent instructions The problem is that my drive is completely unresponsive. Can’t boot from CD, can’t boot into single user mode, can’t boot into Target drive. Do you have any other methods you can suggest?

Thanks so much for explaining the situation and stepping in to help those of us with non-booting Leopard Macs. Iospirit is still one of my favorite developers. And Plex has transformed the way I watch media.

I’m seeing much improved playback of 1080p content (12-15MBit/sec) on my Macbook 2.0Ghz. I was not able to smoothly playback these videos prior to this update so I am very much pleased! Example is a Gladiator 1080p rip that weighs in at 12.92GB can now be played on this machine, whereas before I had to use my other 2.4GHz macbook to play 1080p stuff reliably. Also, I am not using the h264 speed boost at all as it is not needed.

Thanks very much for fixing the DTS downmixing (well, at least, apparently, haven’t yet tried it) as well as getting rid of the awful automatic keyboard backlight disabling.

One thing I would like to see is for Plex to be able to just use the current audio device, rather than changing it to the one it last used (ie: the one set within Plex), this frequently causes my whole computer to switch devices if I’m currently using one other than what I was using when last running Plex and requires that I manually change it both in the system and in Plex.

Further, changing the audio device is now easy in 10.6, as it can be done quickly by just option-clicking the sound icon in the menubar.

Guys, given I only had Plex on my 10.5.8 install, I decided to give SL another shot, so didn’t bother with Archive & Install.

Instead I opted for clean SL install. Updated to 10.6.1 and installed 0.8.3 WITH Candelair.

All seems ok now!

I run a Mac Mini with Intel GM450. I tried SL previously (before 10.6.1) with Plex 0.8.2 and the Video playback was not smooth at all! Hence me saying “Jerky Videos”. There were a lot of threads in the Plex forum discussing this at the time.

As said above 10.6.1 & Plex 0.8.3 seems to play perfectly now.

Thanks to your support and the photos some of you sent in, I’ve been able to isolate the issue down to a single entry in the Info.plist of the Candelair driver:

OSBundleRequired = Console

This entry tells the system that the driver should be loaded early. On the systems on which the boot issue turned up, it was loaded too early, it seems (which in turn seems to depend on the order in which drivers are read in, which in turn appears to be dependent on the filesystem – which explains, why the issue disappeared after archive+install: after that, the Candelair driver was the last addition to the driver folder). The code execution just stopped at a simple memory allocation.

I removed said entry from the Info.plist and sent a new version to those of you who got in touch by email. The feedback was positive: it did resolve the issue in all cases.

The issue affected less than 0.07% of users using Candelair under OS 10.5 (using the download numbers from browsers running 10.5 systems and the number of affected people I’m aware of).

So, although I’ve been testing Candelair extensively and carefully on 6 different systems under 8 different OS releases prior to release (and additional tests have been made by betatesters), my chances were very slim (1 : 1430) to actually encounter the issue myself and find it prior to release. Nonetheless, I’d like to apologize for the inconveniences caused. To avoid even such rare issues in the future, I intend to put an infrastructure into place that allows me to increase the number of betatesters.

– A new version

A new version of Candelair (version 1.0.2 / driver version 1.7.2) – which has its Info.plist corrected and no longer has the issue – is already online for about 12 hours by now and will also be available via the built-in updater, shortly.

– How to restore booting

Last, but not least, here are the instructions for those affected to return to a booting system:

1) Boot into single user mode following the instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492

2) when you arrive at the “:/ root#” prompt, type in
rm -Ri /System/Library/Extensions/RBIOKitHelper.kext
and confirm the deletion of the files located at and within /System/Library/Extensions/RBIOKitHelper.kext.

3) when done, type in
reboot

4) Your Mac will now reboot. Let is start up normally without pressing any keys during startup.

5) When reinstalling the Candelair driver, please be sure you’re at 1.0.2 (driver version 1.7.2) or later. You can find both version numbers by pressing on the “About” button in the Candelair preference pane.

Great work guys.

I was still running Plex 0.8.2 on OSX 10.5 and used both the Apple and Harmony 525 remote and had no problems.
Yesterday I upgraded Plex and had the same problem as described above, after some time the remote wasn’t working anymore!!! Also the installed apps where disappeared from the video and audio menus. After a reboot of the OSX they reappeared (and the remote is still working).
If the remote issue is solved within PLEX (or OSX), then I will upgrade to 10.6

About the menu level up/back problem with remote.
Copying PlexHelper from 0.8.2 release to USER/Library/Application Support/Plex and overwrite 0.8.3 PlexHelper fixed the problem!
This solution was suggested in Plex forum!

For some reason Plex is still crashing when playing music about 1 second after the GForce visualizer starts. I think I’d already upgraded to SL when I reported the problem with .82 Bummer.

Other than that it’s seems pretty solid =)

Same problem here! Didn’t install Candelair, runing 10.5.8.
Menu button on Apple remote no longer bring you one level back in the menu, ESC key still works.
Please look at this please!

After doing the Archive+Install, the Candelair preference pane was still there but it was again asking to install the driver which makes me think that your Observation #2 is incorrect…the re-install must nuke the Candelair driver somehow. Also, the “New” system is 10.5.6 because that is what came with my Mini Mac. The “old” system was at 10.5.8 at the time when I installed the Candelair driver.

Quick question: The update went well, i installed the Candelair driver but found that the functionality of the remote has changed.

When in the Plex menu’s the menu button always took me ‘up’ one menu-level in previous versions of Plex. Now it does nothing, or in some menu’s bring op the option menu (also found by pressing ‘c’).

When watching a movie, the + and – buttons no longer change the volume, but make you jump forward something like 5 minutes.

Is there a way to make it work just like the old Plex?
