New Plug-in Releases

September 07th, 2009 | Category: Plug-ins | Author: elan

We hope everyone has in the US has enjoyed the long weekend with the appropriate mix of alcohol and family. This week brings us three new plugins:

First up, written by Sander Spies, is an AVForums.com plug-in. AVForums is a totally free, UK based, independently run resource for people interested in home consumer electronics. AVForums covers all areas of electronic home entertainment including home cinema, DVD, digital photography, camcorders, video gaming, computer hardware and mobile phones. This plugin gives you easy access to AVForums TV (shows, features, etc.) and podcasts.

While I certainly appreciate all the work being done to help Plex, I would like to voice my apathy to all of these plug-ins coming out.
I use Plex to play local media almost exclusively. I know that these plug-ins are relatively easy to make, but I would very much like for the primary focus of development be making Plex better at playing local media.

umm…enough with the plugins. how about we concentrate efforts on getting a stable release of Plex? ive yet to have this thing stable on Leopard or Snow Leopard.

    any day now

If you don’t like the plugins, nobody is forcing you to download them. These are made by third-party developers and released for the benefit of the community, how about a little appreciation?

Plex is already very good at playing local media, and the Plex development team is hard at work developing the next stable version. They aren’t wasting any time by releasing these plugins. If you don’t want any plugins, install XBMC.

@ the team, good work guys, keep it up. Looking forward to .8.3 / .9!!

@matt & ron: Just to clear up a few misunderstandings:

    1) We've spent quite a bit of time looking at the Snow Leopard issues, and at least one of them appears to be an Apple bug.
    2) The (talented, most excellent) people working on the plug-ins are generally not the ones working on the Plex core, and vice-versa.

    Cheers :)

    Regards

@David: The Viasat plug-in can be downloaded from the App Store, which is one of the top-level menu selections inside Plex. (And welcome!)

This is so much appreciated! Thank you guys for making this available

It’s just bad optics, guys – most people are concerned with the lack of Snow Leopard compatibility, and your homepage is swimming in posts about new plugins. You need a Snow Leopard status report front and centre. I understand that the plugin stuff is a different team, but nonetheless it gives the wrong impression. (I hate to complain, Plex being free and awesome and all…)

Thank you Jappen! An eagerly awaited plug-in.

(or in Swedish: Tack Jappen! Mycket efterlängtad plug-in.)

    Regards

D, buzz off… nobody cares that you are ticked… maybe you shouldn’t have upgrade to Snow Leopard when there is no benefit what so ever over Leopard when it comes to Plex. Quit taking your anger out on everyone else. The majority of people here LOVE seeing the new plugins…. so get over it and quit waste OUR time.
