How do I add internet video such as TED, YouTube, CNET etc?
Internet sources are added using the App Store found in the Applications menu. See the following screencast for more info. vimeo.com/3315184
One of the plug-ins has stopped working.
If a plug-in stops working, it’s likely that the structure of the site changed. This doesn’t happen very frequently with most sites, but it’s a definite possibility. When this occurs, an entity we call the “Campfire Robot” springs into action automatically and tracks us down to let us know, and shortly thereafter we can push an update. As such, if a site stops working, the best thing to do is to check the App Store for updates. If you have automatic updates turned on, check your install history to see if an update got installed while you were getting coffee.
I don’t see the Applications Menu Item.
If you previously used v5 of Plex we suggest deleting the folder called Plex found in ~/Library/Application Support/. Many things have changed and a fresh install will ensure the best performance with Plex.

Opening the plug-in floodgates…

As I mentioned in the last post, one of the reasons we are so excited about this latest release of Plex and the Plex Media Server is that we’ve added lots of new features in support of new plug-ins, as well as an elegant new version of the Python plug-in framework. We’re going to be releasing a bunch of new plug-ins this week, and here are the first four. N.B. Please make sure you install the latest version of Plex before installing these!

SVT Play, written by Daniel Eriksson, Mattias Norlander, and Ivar Åsell, is a lovely plug-in for Swedish speakers. The content is available for viewing outside of Sweden, which is excellent news as well. These guys did a great job with the plug-in.

Next up, for our British users, James added support for the awesome 4oD site, which has an amazing amount of content. The site was recently converted from Windows-only to Flash, and now it’s available on your television. You might notice it takes a little while when first entering directories with lots of content, but then after that it will be both instant *and* up to date (this is part of the magic caching of the new framework version).

This next one is one of my personal favorites, and not just because I wrote it, and fell in love with the new version of the Python framework in the process. Vimeo has got tons of amazing content, with lots of it in HD. You can spend hours in here, easily.

    This is so sweet.

    I’ll see about adding support for Spanish content. Currently there is a plug-in ( http://blog.tvalacarta.info/plugin-xbmc/ ) that uses XOT-UZG for this. Is there an easy port-path from XOT-UZG to this new architecture? I’m not sure how compatible with the traditional Plug-in structure this new one is…

    Thanks for the SVT Play plugin. This was the first plugin I thought of when plugins was added to Plex. Nice that I didn’t have to write it myself

    Are the plugins compatible wih xbmc? I would love to have the svtplay-plugin there aswell.. :)

    @oblada: They are not, and even thought portions could be translated, XBMC lacks the technology to play Flash/Silverlight content.
