Plex Media Center for OS X Leopard

Version 0.5 is just around the corner

As some of you have accurately pointed out, we’ve slipped past the release date listed for 0.5. Before the comparisons with Windows Vista start arising, let me assure you that we’re working hard on it, and have one or two minor things to finish up before releasing. We’re thinking about doing a couple of beta releases before the final 0.5, just to ensure the greatest success.

Stay tuned…

    can’t wait for it ;-)

could someone please tell me how far the other (win32 and linux) ports are? Testing in a VM isn’t really funny

@azrael: Your best bet is to ask on the forum or in IRC. As you may have noticed, the OS X releases march to the beat of a slightly different drum.

    I want I want I want I want..

    ..

    I want I want I want I want! :)

I’m only impatient because each new release has been a great improvement on the last!

Personally, there’s not a thing in 0.4.5 that I miss, or that isn’t working. It’s what made the money I spent on the mac mini worth spending, so by all means, take all the time you need to make it a stable release. I’d rather wait a few weeks longer than have to upgrade every other day because someone found a bug.

    Vista reference FTW!

Is 0.5 going to have any python/script fixes? I can’t see them listed…

dumb question, does anyone know where myvideos34.db is stored and the rest of the user data? I can’t find it below the xbmc directory.I’m new to the MAC so I’m still get use to navigating around

  9. phunkysai May 3rd, 2008 4:41 am

@rob: All the user files are in your home folder under:

    ~/Library/Application Support/XBMC/

    Specifically the UserData folder.

Hilarious. Of course, the price for xmbc is a lot better than Vista, and we really appreciate the hard work and result of it - unlike Vista. Thank you “team” for your continued dedication… a little extra time just makes the heart grow fonder, and the release that much better.

    @Gamester17
Yes I do know xbmc is written in c++. I’ve actually had a look at the source a while back becasue I wanted to contribute. Then life caught up. I was more commenting on the comments from the artcle.

Great, i wan’t to use it for my apple mini, so keep up the good work

  15. clayton May 4th, 2008 8:32 pm

OK, so given you can run OSX on the MacTV

    http://www.appletvhacks.net/2007/04/01/mac-os-x-running-on-apple-tv/

Is anyone out there attempting to build this for the MacTV yet?

It would be great to start releasing some binaries for this given its the cheapest/most suitable product for this to run on.

    @ clayton

Have a look around the site / forums, this has been mentioned before. I believe that without access to gpu on the AppleTV then HD playback would be a less than optimal exercise. It is underpowered.

  17. krijonk May 5th, 2008 7:59 am

It has already been stated that there will be NO effort put towards getting this to run on the “APPLETV” (not MacTV).

There are many limitations, so running OSX on an AppleTV is not quite OSX.

One, as Clayton said, without using the x264 and other Hardware acceleration, there the appletv is extremely underpowered, about 1.0Ghz sse2 only cpu, 256mb of ram.

AppleTV’s only can run 10.4. using semthex hacked kernel (not 10.5 which OSXMBC is directed)

APPLETV IS ***NOT*** A GOOD PIECE OF HARDWARE FOR OSXBMC

Just wondering Elan, aren’t you afraid that as you’re distributing it in binary form you’ll get into trouble due to MPEG licensing issues?

  19. kainen May 7th, 2008 5:49 am

Looking forward to the new release!

The biggest problem I’m having with the current release is support for subtitles… on XMBC on my xbox the subtitles show just like they are supposed to… on osxbmc sometimes they overlay (2 rows on top of eachother) or then the font just gets huge… and it doesn’t matter if I change the subtitlefont size…
