Status with Mac Mini and Macs with ATI video

January 22nd, 2008 | Category: Coding | Author: lamnina

Just to let you know, there are still problems with GMA950 video cards (used by the Mac Mini). I changed some of the calls from glMultiTexCoord2f to glMultiTexCoord2fARB, but it turns out I missed a bunch more.

On the other hand, I have successfully played high definition MKV videos on my wife’s iMac, which has the ATI Radeon HD2400. NOTE: You must make sure that the video resolution settings *match* between the video settings and the appearance settings (I used 720p for testing). Otherwise you will end up with a white screen, lack of video, and a completely unexpected audit by the IRS.

Version 0.0.3, available here, has one small change, which may or not make any difference at all. It was suggested by the ever-helpful d4rk as a solution to an OpenGL threading issue I was seeing with the debug display turned on.

    Where? I don’t see a link to 0.0.3 I’m afraid.
    Editor: Whoops, fixed the link.

    @aequitas: Good to hear, what hardware (and surround receiver)?

    @elan -

    I tried the new build. Unfortunately my mini still crashes. I do get a different output from the debug, but I don’t seem to have access to append to my current bug report. Should I file a new one?

    @Ezrem There are still problems with the Mini. Hopefully fixed soon.

    Great work so far…Crashed a couple of times when I try to add a source when in Video or Music using ‘Browse’

    Then tried again a little later and was successful in adding a music and video directories. Just played my first music file in XBMC on my Mac Mini (Core Duo 1.83GHz with regular ole headphones in the audio out port). I will go home and try it now with a similar mac mini with audio going out over firewire to some LaCie speakers

    Nice job! I have always wonreder why nothing like XBMC ever existed in “our” world. Good to see it’ll change over time. I hope this project will get stable, but here is my “debug” report:

    Video is not working on 1st release MacBook (2GHz Core Duo, 2GB ram, GAM950), similar debug as http://dn-0.com/xbmc-trac/ticket/33.

    @Gordon: Add sources through editing the Sources.xml file for now. I’ve never actually tried adding via the GUI, but I just tried and it worked for me for local filesystem sources. Anything else probably won’t work.

    @tv: Expect a new version out soon which may solve video with GMA950 cards.

    I have some trouble to extract file :/ I’ll try with the unarchiver and default mac os zip utility, result file but file info say document text and not binary (no extention)? first release work but 0.2 and 0.3 not … I also try extract with command line same way (tar, gzip) :/ If I try to launch terminal say “-bash: ./XBMC: Permission denied”, I miss something but what ? thx

    @Matt: Network worked on my wife’s iMac, which is connected wirelessly. Give it a try and let us know.

    You have to make the XBMC file executable. From the terminal use:

    chmod +x XBMC

    I think you can do this from the finder also but I’m not sure.

    K thx

    hey. What packages am I missing?
    I chmod +x the file that I untared and trys to start it with ./XBMC-0.0.3 and I get

    dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libcdio.6.dylib
    Referenced from: /Users/yooh/./XBMC-0.0.3
    Reason: image not found
    Trace/BPT trap

    And have no clue on where to get that missing library thing.

    @timerx -

    The instructions that list the packages to install aren’t the easiest things to find. They are here:

    same setup as my macbook runs fine with great performance :) xbmc correctly identifies GPU as Intel x3100 graphics system, however im not able to get video to play, but im not expecting that at this point.
